Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 Education Association

President's Welcome:

Welcome to the Bucks IU 22 Education Association.  We are an organization of over 450 special education teachers, social workers, behavior analysts, counselors, psychologists, occupational, physical, vision, hearing and speech therapists. We have a Representative Council that consists of a representative from each Supervisor from different programs within the county.  Our Executive Council is made up of one President, Vice President, Grievance Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Mission Statement:

The purpose of this Association shall be to promote the general educational welfare of the state, to protect and advance the interests and general welfare of its members, to foster professional zeal, to advance educational standards, and to establish and maintain helpful and friendly relations.  We strive to advocate for great public schools for our teachers and students.

President's Message:

PSEA is working diligently to make sure that no legislation is passed that would negatively affect the current pension system.  PSEA is also working to ensure that the State is holding up their end of the bargain and making their required contributions to fund our pension system just as PSEA members have been faithfully doing with every paycheck.  PSEA needs members support in this pension battle.  Please visit the pension link  (Keep the Promise: Protect your Pension) to learn how you can support this effort.  PSEA is a member driven organization.  Members need to take a pro-active  role in their organization and do their part educate themselves on the topics affecting educators.  Please join us in this statewide effort to keep the promise and garuantee the retirement benefits that every educator deserves.  Checkout the new "Protect your Pension" page under the members only tab to see what you can do.  We also recently began the negotiations process.  Updates will be posted under the member's only section.

Sincerely,

Kate Rutledge

President

4 Things You Should Know About Your Pension

1. Your PSERS pension income will be 87.5% of your pre-retirement income (if you retire with 35 years of service).

2. Your PSERS pension still supports you if you become disabled, and provides a death benefit for your loved ones.

3. Without your PSERS pension, you would need to invest at least 20% of your income into a 403(b) account (similar to a 401(k) account) every year until you retire, and earn excellent net investment returns every year, to achieve roughly the same retirement benefit.

4. New legislation could eliminate these benefits for all new employees and replace them with an inferior plan. Be ready to call your legislators.

Eastern Lebanon County EA exercises practical compassion

Occasionally there is a story about an individual in which life appears to come full circle. The kind of story where a person overcomes childhood poverty, earns a college education, and then returns to her birthplace to help in a time of need. Sandrine Macena Longenecker, a young woman adopted from Haiti and raised in Lebanon County, has that kind of story. In 1990 Sandrine Macena was six years old, the youngest of 10 siblings living in desperate poverty in Haiti. Her father had died and her mother could not care for her.
